Space Colony Necronom VI

Your place for abductions, slave trade and monsters

This is a small random idea, basicly an excuse to strap on combat meters and temperarily set rez rights to the station.

Base idea- a group of Space Pirates take the station, holding many of the different crew members captive. It'll be up to the other crew members to incapacitate and defeat the pirates before they get too far in thier plans.

Ideas for combat system used include CCS or Spellfire

Any ideas, comments? does this even seem viable?

Might work as stress relief ;)

No rez on station. Sorry guys.
Thats the short answer.

The long answer is that rez rights come with a large responsibility, one that the random player might not understand. SL is full of loopholes, and things that technically shouldn't be able to happen, do happen (like rezzing an object over the prim limit can return parts of the station).

As for combat meters, i'm not entirely sure how it works, but from what i understand, running combat meters can turn rather costly, no?

So thats for combat meters anyhow... but i like the idea of an organised fight. I've been thinking a bit of maybe some kind of hand-to-hand combat event, a temporary fighting ring being set up, or a cage and people making bets, all played in freeform though.

Well, for the combat meters things: THEY SUCK

The one who wins is the one who has better connection to the server and they add tons of lag (and NVI can be laggy as it is now).

If you want to do roleplaying fights scenarios, you can do it freely. Arrange it with some people, let the passer-by enter and the fun is guaranteed.

Also I like Lex's idea, an impromptu ring with chars fighting each other. And people placing bets "My freight is gonna beat yours, loser!" XD... Also, a mud fight with the hot chicks we have sounds neat... hmmmm...

PD: Necronom has contracted a pretty good group of Space Pirates... the Black Talon Pirates. I'm their Lieutenant, so, we'd like to be accounted for things like infiltrations, invasions and assaults. Our ships are there patrolling the sector taking care of unwanted visitors ;-) We're up to anything that means action, spaceship dogfights or we can even arrange a way for it to 'bypass' our protection (we're not infalible)

The reason I thought of meters was because, with No Rez, it's a tad hard sometimes to use most projectile-spawned weapons without a lot of 'OMG you so didn't hit me!' talk in OCC. Not that I accuse anyone on Necro of doing that mind you, but it has happened before to me elsewhere.

I do like the ideas this is spawning though ^^ Yay! I was useful!

In addition, the meters are horrifically laggy. We die of lag enough as it is.

Also, this is a freeform RP setting for a reason -- we're all here because we prefer it for one reason or another. If I want a combat meter of any kind, I'd rather go play my PS2 alone. Any computer game or video game can calculate damage. I want to play with real people who make situations interesting. Meters suck the fun out of it.

As for the storyline -- what's with all the miscellaneous space pirates lately? I'm gonna start marking territory, I swear -- BTP WUZ HEER! *spraypaints*

One of things that could improve combat on station would be Dice on NEMIT (Necronom HUD), it would give it more purpose then completing missions for some quests. And with dice you can improve combat, because if you run into some newb with big heat-seeking rocket luncher you can only expect he will shoot your ass off the station.

Addind dice to Nemit? What do you think?

The mudfight thing is definitly comming, in one shape or another :3

Speaking of dice: Getting dice doesn't change the fact that you still need to be in agreement with your co-player. You say you have 50% chances, he/she says they have 80%. And then? So you are both at square one.

I also happen to like a good fight with no drama attached, so please, keep the ideas comming! Maybe we can figure something out that will work out.

Freeform combat with good participants is perfect of course.

About this dice, I'm not sure what you mean with percents but.
Lets say I make big post and shoot one bullet at someone, Roll dice - I get 60, other one gets 65. Then other one makes post, by looking at roll other one won, means he/she could evade, get light shot, or something 'realistic'.

Combat usually comes in meter, dice, free form. If there is something else I'd like to hear it too! ^^

This is what i ment pretty exactly ;) Dice requires some sort of system that both agree on and understand. With procentage i ment that you have 50% chance to succeed, so if you roll above 50 on a 100 sided dice, you succeed. What if the other person claims to be much better shooter? They might want a higher success rate, etc. Every system has it's ups and downs.

I agree that the chance of failure or success is more exciting at times, combat doesn't become as predictable. On the other hand, in a freeform setting introducing combat rules can be devastating as there will always be people that will try to force their way with using the dice as an excuse (i rolled higher than you, bend over for rape!). So maybe some kind of middle way, if people want to roll dice in combat, they already can of course. I'm rather sure that it won't become mandatory anytime soon.

I don't feel confortable with idea introducing random elements in form of dice to roleplaying game... (To tell the truth I have thrown some dices during the RP.)

It occured me after Dylan was trapped me and Valkas crossfire that we could have asked him to judge the situation. In 1st life freeform roleplaying games that we play the distinction between gamemaster and player isn't always written to stones since everybody can bring elements to story and even roles can be changed. Even when you play pool your opponent will judge your turn.

I suppose rule of thumb could be that you should ask one neutral person to judge any fight? Basically this is self correcting system - you don't want to be overruled and that's you place special attention to rp itself. Judge wouldn't have much to do: Maybe pointing out obivous things that fighters might not have noticed and keeping fights to drag over when no one wants to quit. That's boring but can happen when people
love their characters and are determined to fight to the death.
